How to space pictures evenly on a wall
Enter the usable wall width, the width of one frame and the number of frames. If you already know the gap you want, the calculator centers the complete row and gives equal left and right margins. If you choose equal gaps, it divides the unused wall width evenly between every frame and both wall edges.
The result gives the gallery width, side margin and every frame-center position from the left edge. Those center marks are usually easier to transfer to the wall than repeatedly measuring frame edges.
Fixed frame gap vs equal wall-edge spacing
Use a fixed gap when the space between frames matters more than matching the outer margins. Use equal gaps including the wall edges when you want one repeating spacing measurement across the complete usable width.
Both methods keep the row mathematically centered. The calculator does not choose a decorative spacing rule for you; it uses the dimensions and spacing method you select.
Calculate the nail or hook height
For vertical placement, open Optional nail height and enter the frame height, the frame-center height you want from the floor, and the distance from the top of the frame to its hook or hanging point. The result is the hook or nail height to mark from the floor.
This avoids forcing a universal eye-level height. Furniture, ceiling height, frame size and the artwork itself can all change where a picture looks best.

How do I center a row of pictures with a fixed gap?
Choose Use my gap and enter the gap between frames. The calculator finds the total gallery width and splits the remaining wall space equally into the left and right margins.
What does frame center from the left edge mean?
It is the horizontal position of the center of each frame measured from the left edge of the usable wall area. Marking those points makes repeated placement easier.
Can this calculate nail or picture-hook height?
Yes. Enter the optional frame height, desired frame-center height from the floor and hook offset from the top of the frame. The calculator returns the hook or nail height.
Does the calculator assume a standard picture hanging height?
No. It only calculates vertical placement from the measurements you provide, so it does not impose a one-size-fits-all hanging-height rule.
Can I use different-size frames in the same row?
This version is designed for a row of frames with the same width. Mixed-width gallery walls need individual frame dimensions and a different layout model.
Can I use centimetres instead of inches?
Yes. Switch the measurement unit and the entered dimensions are converted so you can continue the same layout in centimetres or inches.
