How much does eBay take from a sale?
The answer depends mainly on the listing category and the total amount of the sale. eBay's final value fee can use the item price, shipping or handling charged to the buyer and applicable sales tax as the fee base, then add a per-order charge.
This calculator applies the selected category schedule to the amounts you enter and separates the percentage-based fee from the per-order amount so the total is easier to check.
Why eBay category matters
eBay does not use one final value fee percentage for every category. Some categories have a single rate, while others have tiers where the percentage changes above a threshold. Choose the category that matches the actual listing rather than using a generic average.
The calculator is designed for a known sale amount. If your question is the lowest offer you can safely accept, use the separate Best Offer Calculator because that works backwards from a target profit instead.
Sales tax, international fees and account adjustments
Applicable sales tax can increase the amount on which the final value fee is calculated even though that tax is not seller revenue. Enter the tax collected on the transaction when you want the fee estimate to reflect that sale.
Most sellers can leave the advanced options unchanged. Use an international or seller-performance adjustment only when it applies to the transaction or account; the calculator does not guess those account-specific conditions. Promoted Listings advertising is also separate from the final value fee.
Frequently asked questions
How much does eBay charge when an item sells?
eBay's final value fee depends on the listing category and total amount of the sale, and a per-order fee can also apply. Enter the sale details to calculate the current supported US estimate.
Does eBay charge its final value fee on sales tax?
For eBay.com, applicable sales tax is included in the total amount of the sale used for the final value fee calculation.
Does eBay charge a fee on shipping?
Shipping or handling charged to the buyer can be included in the total amount of the sale used for final value fees.
What is the eBay per-order fee?
Under the supported standard US schedule, a per-order charge is added to the percentage-based final value fee. The amount can depend on the order total and category rules.
Why do eBay final value fee percentages differ by category?
eBay publishes category-specific fee schedules, and some categories use tiered rates. That is why choosing the actual listing category is more accurate than applying one universal percentage.
Does this include eBay Store subscription fee rates?
No. This calculator is scoped to the standard eBay.com US fee table without a Store subscription. Store sellers can have different category rates.
Are eBay Promoted Listings fees included?
No. Advertising is a separate cost. Use the eBay Promoted Listings Break-even Calculator to evaluate a General campaign ad rate.
Does this calculator show my net profit?
This tool focuses on the eBay final value fee. Use the Best Offer or Promoted Listings tools when your decision depends on costs and profit rather than the platform fee alone.
